Facing a data loss is a crisis that every computer used could face. Hard drive data recovery requires the usage of some software programs. These software programs could be purchased over the internet, but first you need to know what software to use.

First you should determine the filing system that your hard drive uses to archive files. If the drive uses a FAT (file allocation table) then you should use hard recovery software that is able to recover data from that specific filing method. NTFS (NT file system) needs another recovery software that suits that specific file type. Also there are universal hard drive recovery software programs that could deal with both of the file types. Of course these universal programs are little bit more expensive that other types.

Universal software programs are more suitable for IT technicians and network administrators who have to deal with more than one computer. As an IT technician, remember when you purchase hard drive recovery software program that you get the license that enables you to use it with more than one computer.

After you determine the software that you should use, you should determine the problem that occurred to your hard drive. You should know whether the files that you want to restore are deleted or if the files are intact but the drive is unbootable.

Incase that the files are deleted by accident or the drive was formatted then you should prepare another drive to boot from and the save the files resulting from the hard drive recovery. In case of unbootable hard drive because of corrupted operating system, then you should boot your computer from an external drive then access the hard drive through the hard drive recovery program and restore your lost files.

At any time you discover that some files are deleted by mistake, the first precaution you should do is to stop using your hard drive. You should do this to avoid “writing” over the old files. If you used your hard drive then the chances or restoring the lost files will be minimized. There are simple hard drive recovery software programs responsible for restoring deleted files just after they are being deleted, even if you have emptied your recycle bin. These software programs are cheaper than the other more sophisticated ones but with limited capabilities, they can only restore files after a short time of being deleted.
